Sunday games - for the coming years

Good day all,

I've been in the league for quite a few years now, and every year you will hear the odd comment about how it is difficult, or not in the mood, to play on Sundays. (i.e. at the cottage, family commitments, etc...) We have already lost some players because of this. And, this year, it seems that the same issue is more prevalent than ever.

Now, how would like to ask all players in the league what they feel about this: continue to play on Sundays and on Tuesdays or Thursdays (status quo), or play only during the week (Mondays and Thursdays, or Tuesday and Thursdays, or something like that)

If we do this twice during the week, it means we will need another ball diamond; apparently the ball diamond in NDC is available. Or any other diamond would do, depending on the availability, of course!

At any rate, food for thought! I wouldn't like to see teams folding because of players not wanting to play on Sundays anymore. I think we have a very good league going... But, there's a lot more rumbling this year about this issue more than ever!!

Sundays seems to be a problem for every team. I agree with Steph. Lets play on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Let's find another ball diamond in the east so we can have 8 teams play on both days Tuesday and Thursday. Just a thought Serge

I personally like the Sunday games especially the 5:00 games. But some teams are having difficulty fielding players every night of the week, not just Sundays. If we find another diamond to play every team Tuesdays and Thursday. Than we will lose the players that play in multi leagues. Are we ahead?! I receive the the schedule from the GOFL and accommodate players so they can play in both leagues and there are a lot of players playing in multi leagues. I would rather like to see only 2 or 3 games on Sundays for July and August. This way teams get 1 or 2 weekends off per month due to long weekends. I have also been suggesting that we play 3 or 4 games 1 weekend in May so we can have a healthy schedule.

I like the status quo. I agree with Gary's comments that player tend to not be able to commit to a lot of games. A showcase day or weekend would be idea to help alleviate some of the strains of playing 2 games a week and could provide the opportunity to simply play games at the arena diamond. The league is also very good with long weekends so that players have the opportunity to be absent 7 weekends throughout the summer months.

I agree with Sunday games. I prefer to play week nights. It's annoying showing up to ball park at 5:00 on a Sunday and seeing a team field 7-8 players because the rest of the team has other commitments. I like the idea of doing a "showcase" day where every team could show up and play 2 games on a Sunday or Saturday in May (3rd weekend for example) have a few pops, BBQ at the arena. Or changing the schedule to one Sunday a month of scheduled games instead of every weekend minus the holiday weekends of course. Or just having one game at 8:00 Sunday night and every week 2 teams just rotate, so everyone will play once a month on Sundays. Just a couple of ideas..

The last things this league needs is to be losing players, we want to keep the league growing. When is the AGM?? This may be a topic that should be brought up at this years to maybe be changed for next season. Or atleast talked about it.
