The forum has been pretty quiet this season, so with playoffs right around the corner why not spark a convo?
With 7 teams this year the team who finishes 1st overall gets a bye in the first round.....
My question is, should the 1st place team get to choose whether or not they take the bye?

At the meeting last week, it was mentioned that the first place team DOES have the choice to pass on the bye and play the first round. Now whether or not the Heat or the Guzzlers do this, well, we'll see. Should be a very interesting race to the finish!

It's weird how at the start of the season certain teams complained how there was a big gap in the league. Looking at the stats right now it doesnt seem that way at all. The top 2 teams are battling for 1st, then there is quite the log jam for 3rd 4th and 5th.

1st place team has 35 points and last place team has 8 points. Take it to another level... 2nd place team has 34 points and the 2nd last team has 11 points. Not sure where you are going with this Derek but there is quite a big gap!! I'll grant you that the 3rd, 4th and 5th place are in a battle but there is still quite a big gap overall...
Unless rules are changed very soon, I see the league folding in a couple of years....

My whole point was that over the past couple seasons the league seems to be getting more competitive. Just because certain teams have chosen to pick people they know instead of a legit first round pick does not mean that any rules need to be changed in order to keep the league from folding. This league is the oldest of its kind in the Ottawa area and I do not see it folding any time soon.
As far as rule changes go. If you feel there is something that can be changed to help out certain teams don't be afraid to show up to the AGM at the end of the season. Everybody is welcome. Complaining about issues on here isn't going to do any good. Everyone who plays in this league should want to see it grow and continue to grow for years to come, not pregnant dog and complain about how there needs to be rule changes in order for the league to be more even....

Well, you can't be talking about my squad, cuz the guy I took in the first round had 3 ribbies against you guys last night, and a single and a run scored in the first game, lol.

For what it's worth, I do agree with you that the games have been more competitive these last couple years. (Last night's debacle notwithstanding). If you total up the number of 1 or 2 run losses by the 2 last place teams, and turn those into wins, the middle of the pack is even tighter. On a good night, any of the teams between 4th and 7th could beat the other, in my opinion. The top 3 teams are in a different class, that's all.

Oops, careful Derek. I was not complaining. I didn't even submit any ideas on any rule changes... neither has my dog. I was simply expressing my opinion on your post, that's all. It's not in my nature to complain!
Looking at the scores through this season, Matt is correct to some extent... scores seems to be closer. But, I do believe there is quite a gap still... the standings will support that, and it seems that Matt supports that too from his last post. By experience, if this trends continue, one by one, teams will fold and at some point (god forbid) the league will fold.
Trust me, I don't want the league to fold. I'm still enjoying the game at my tender age...

But you do realize that within the next few years 2 out of those 3 teams will start to fall off as a lot of their players are getting up there in age.

Oh yeah, I do realize this... especially that I'm that group of players! Darn... not sure if I should cry or laugh out loud...

All i'm trying to say is, the league is alot closer now then it has been in past years. Even though 2 or 3 teams have been at the top for recent years. No league is perfect but I would like to think this league is the best run league in Ottawa
