Thank god there is a well organized recreational league like the BMFL in the Ottawa region. If it wasn't for the BMFL who knows what some guys would do, I for one would definetly not go play in the GCMFL. Not only is it probably the worst run league in fastpitch history, but inviting an outside team to come and play in your leagues tourny and then screwing them over so that don't have the slightest chance on winning is bullsh*t. Before you get all mad and start calling me out let me give you the low down.
So last week sometime myself and another member of the BMFL had the idea of putting a team from our league together to play in the Glen Cairn tournament like we did the year before. We enjoyed it as we saw it as a learning experience for our young team last year and this year we wanted to go in and possibly win the whole thing. Well aparently the executive of the GCMFL had different plans for us. First of all we were told that we were not aloud to have Ryan Chatten or Pierre Lalonde picth for us as they were way too good for the caliber of ball players their league had to offer. Then our first game roles around friday night against a league team of theirs, they have 9 guys fielding but only 8 hitting....why you ask? oh there was no reason given to us but aparently the ump seemed to think it was ok. Not only did we go on to lose that game 9-0 but as a twist we faced Neil Cooke from Carp I4C (pretty legit pitcher to say the least). Anyways our next game roles around saturday at noon.....another loss, who pitched you ask? Billy Gerber....also plays for Carp I4C. So far 2 games 2 GOFL quality pitchers. Third game roles around and during the warm ups i get a visit from none other then the league president himself he wants to know why Ryan Chatten is pitching for us. I simply explain my thoughts about the two guys we faced prior so i felt the need to put him in, then he says "well now that i've seen him pitch and he's not that good i would've let him pitch in the first place". Cmon.... are you serious?.....so i wasn't pleased to say the least.....anyways we go on to talk about the game friday and how the 8 players rule works and how it should be an automatic out. He says to me, well if your runs for and against come into play with you either making it or not making it to sunday we'll talk about it. Turns out we win our last game 7-6. We missed out on sunday by 4 runs!! I made sure to give mr.president a call after the game to ensure he'd keep his word and "look into it" what does he do? absolutely sweet f**k all. he says " our league allows a team to start with 8 guys without it being an automatic out"....not only was that not announced to us before we paid or entered the tourny, it wasnt even posted on the rules next to the standings!! needless to say I was furious. I made sure to tell him what i thought about his "rule" and how its not a pee-wee league its mens ball, and we would not me entering his tournament again due to his lack of coutesy towards outside teams entering his leagues tournament.
So what i'm trying to say in this rant i'm on is thank you to all the executive who make the BMFL what it is. Some things may not always run smoothly but I love playing in this league and i can completely understand why guys have played here as long as they have. So thanks.
